Building and Completion of DGL Stupa PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 22 March 2007
March 2007 saw the completion of the beautiful Nunnery Stupa which contains a stunning image of the female deity Ushnisha Vijaya. This stupa is modelled on the one at Tashi Jong commemorating the 8th Khamtrul Rinpoche. The Nunnery Spiritual Director, the present Khamtrul Shedrup Nyima, came to consecrate the Stupa. It was a joyous occasion for Tenzin Palmo and the nuns.

Building the Stupa was a complicated and fascinating process. The work was overseen by Gen Lodro, a Khampagar monk who is very knowledgeable in these matters. The pictures tell some of the story. It started with the Mahakala puja performed by His Eminence Choegon Rinpoche and the senior nuns for consecrating the foundations of the Stupa. Different special objects, Sutra and Tantric volumes wrapped in cloth by the nuns, various tsa tsas made by the nuns were placed inside the Stupa at various levels along with relics and other precious substances. The frame for the statue and the upper ornaments were made by Nepalese craftsmen in copper gilded with gold donated by devout ladies from Malaysia. Finally His Eminence Khamtrul Rinpoche and several senior monks from Khampagar Monastery came to the Nunnery to bless the statue and see it placed into the Stupa. Prayers were chanted by all as a light rain fell. It was a very special day in the life of Dongyu Gatsal Ling. We are deeply grateful to all supporters who helped make this Stupa possible.
