Help a Nunnery in Tibet
Support DGL

"My feeling is that well-trained nuns will have an increasingly important role to play in upholding the sacred Dharma, and we are committed to helping this come about."

Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo

An Endowment Fund for the Dongyu Gatsal Ling (DGL) Nunnery was founded in 2008 to ensure that this special institution will have sustained growth and a secure future.

Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo founded the Dongyu Gatsal Ling Nunnery nearly 10 years ago, in the state of Himachal Pradesh, India. Her vision was to enable nuns of the Drukpa Kagyu lineage to realize their intellectual and spiritual potential after centuries of neglect.

Today more than 70 nuns live, study, and practice at Dongyu Gatsal Ling, and their number is growing each year. The construction of the Nunnery buildings and the nuns' daily expenses are funded entirely by voluntary contributions from people throughout the world who share Jetsunma's vision for the spiritual advancement of women.

In these days when Tibetan nunneries and monasteries - especially those in exile - can no longer depend on support from local families, there is the great challenge of finding sufficient means to feed and clothe the community of monastics and sustain the institutions. After more than a decade of traveling the world, giving teachings and attracting supporters and donations on behalf of DGL, beginning in 2010 Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo will be devoting more of her time to the Nunnery and its activities, as well as to her personal practice there.

Our supporters around the world will be key to the successful future of the Dongyu Gatsal Ling Nunnery, ensuring the continuity of education and training of these Buddhist nuns for the benefit of the Dharma and society. We therefore invite all our friends to join us in building the DGL Endowment Fund to support DGL for generations to come.
