In July 2007 Tenzin Palmo flew to East Tibet or Kham with her long-time Dharma sister Ani Jinba who is fluent in the Khampa dialect. They visited various nunneries and monasteries in search of nuns accomplished in the yogic practices of the Drukpa tradition. They stayed for several days at Gebchag Gonpa which is a Nunnery of 400 nuns. This Gonpa is well-known for nuns practicing and sleeping in wooden meditation boxes. The nuns are also accomplished in tumo (inner heat practice) and Tenzin Palmo was impressed with their dedication.
Unfortunately while they were in Kham, H.E. Adeu Rinpoche (senior lineage holder of the Drukpa Kagyu tradition) passed away quite suddenly. So while Tenzin Palmo was in Nangchen she had the opportunity to visit his monastery of Tsechu Gon where she and Ani Jinba met with His Holiness the Gyalwang Drukpa (supreme head of the Drukpa Kagyu lineage) who was present at that time. Other high Lamas had also gathered along with hundreds of monks, nuns and laypeople. The Rinpoches and mixed Sangha conducted the ceremonies with great devotion and joy, despite the grief of losing such an important Master.
Tenzin Palmo was heartened to see that the Dharma is so alive and vibrant in Eastern Tibet with many monasteries and nunneries being built and many monastics practicing and studying assiduously. The lay people are also still very devoted to the Dharma and exude the pure inner joy with which the Tibetans have always been associated. Tenzin Palmo is hopeful that in the foreseeable future it will be possible to bring a few more senior Drukpa Kagyu nuns from Kham to Dongyu Gatsal Ling. |
