Pilgrimage to the Cave in the Snow Fully Subscribed

We would like to thank the many people who wrote to the Nunnery, Yeshey Palmo and the Endowment team expressing interest in accompanying Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo on the Pilgrimage to the ‘Cave in the Snow’ in September and October 2010.

Many people expressed their wish to join Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo on this once-in-a-lifetime journey.  However, the cost and limited number of places meant that it was not possible to include everyone.  The Pilgrimage will be a wonderful experience and of great benefit to the Nunnery Endowment Fund so we are grateful to all who are able to participate.  The Pilgrimage places were filled quite quickly and one lucky lottery winner is joining the group.  She is from Sydney, Australia, and is absolutely delighted to be representing all those who kindly purchased lottery tickets.

Jetsunma and the DGL nuns look forward to welcoming the Pilgrimage group in September.

Pilgrimage to the Cave to support a Nunnery Endowment Fund

We are in the process of planning a Pilgrimage in autumn 2010 to visit the cave in Lahaul, where I spent twelve of the happiest years of my life. This tour would include visits to Dharamsala, Rewalsar Lake (Tso Pema), Khampagar Monastery (the seat of H.E. Khamtrul Rinpoche), the surrounding Tibetan community of Tashi Jong, and of course the DGL Nunnery. We will also visit other monasteries and temples en route and arrange to meet with various high Lamas (for instance His Holiness the Karmapa, if he is in residence). This pilgrimage will then proceed to Lahaul and include places of interest in that Buddhist region. We will then walk slowly to the cave for a picnic! Further details will be available in due course.

This pilgrimage is for the purpose of raising money for our endowment fund. In these days when Tibetan nunneries and monasteries, especially in exile, can no longer depend on support from local families and lay people, there is the great challenge of finding sufficient means to feed and clothe the community of monastics and maintain the institutions. Our DGL nuns are also naturally concerned that, when I stop touring after Europe this year and perhaps return to more retreat, they themselves will not be able to raise sufficient funds for their support and keep the Nunnery functioning, especially as they are still in the process of training. Therefore, we have decided to raise funds for our DGL Endowment Fund which, when properly invested, will allow the nuns to subsist on the accruing interest.

The Cave Pilgrimage is one means to help us raise some capital for the Nunnery. If anyone is interested in learning more about this projected tour or how to become a DGL Endowment Patron, please email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

The nuns and I keep all of you in our hearts and prayers and thank you for your continued support and generous help in making our Dongyu Gatsal Ling Nunnery such a vibrant place for them to live and train.

We offer to you every good wish for your health, happiness, and spiritual progress during the Year of the Earth Ox.

In Dharma,
Tenzin Palmo
