On the 5th February 2017, Jetsunma joined her old friend Sister Lucy Kurien in Pune, India at an event celebrating Maher Ashram‘s 20 years of Love, Service, Compassion & Change.
Over the years, Sister Lucy and Maher have established 42 houses for destitute people in the states of Maharashtra, Kerala and Jharkhand. They currently look after 300 women and 900 children. Maher is also engaged in extensive charitable work in rural areas and the slums of Pune. Recently it launched an Interfaith Community whose mission is to serve humankind, regardless of diverse religious faiths or beliefs.
The happy event had theatre and dance programmes and also marked the opening of the Maher Photo & Art Gallery and release of the new Maher book.
Other special guests at the anniversary party were Pratibha Devisingh Patil and Lila Poonawalla. Pratibha was Governor of Rajasthan from 2004 to 2007 and the 12th President of India from 2007 to 2012. She is the only woman to have held this office. Lila is an Indian industrialist, philanthropist and the founder of the Lila Poonawalla Foundation, a non governmental organization promoting providing scholarships and guidance for the professional education for aspiring girls in India.
Sister Lucy’s invitation to the celebration
